Home > Call for proposals
The Jules Janssen Centre, which replaces and regroups the former CIAS call and the former call for proposals for seminars and colloquia of the Paris Observatory’s Scientific Council, launches its first Call for Proposals for the year 2024. This call concerns the financial support for seminars, workshops, schools and colloquia, organized by members of the Paris Observatory, either on one of the 3 sites of the Observatory, or outside the Observatory (except seminars).
To be eligible, workshops, schools and colloquia must be held in the current year. Proposals for seminars at the Meudon, Paris and Nançay sites are expected on a multi-annual basis (2024-2026).
The events organized by the Multiannual Incentive Actions (API) are only eligible for this call if they are national or international in nature and are mainly intended for an audience outside the Paris Observatory. Events internal to the Observatory organized by these API are therefore not eligible for financial support from the Jules Janssen centre.
The selection criteria for applications will be based on the scientific interest of the events and their capacity to contribute to the visibility of the Paris Observatory. In analyzing the applications, the committee will also ensure that all the actors concerned are well represented (M/F ratio, ratio of permanent researchers/students and post-doctoral fellows, etc.), that the events are organized in accordance with the institution’s sustainable development policy (see appendix).
For the selected events, the Centre Jules Janssen will provide financial support: only operating expenses (missions, coffee breaks, lunches) are eligible. For events organized in the Paris area, it is also possible to request funding for one month of guest researcher.
The Janssen Centre has premises at the Château de Meudon (formerly the CIAS rooms) which can be made available for the organization of events. One of the rooms in the Janssen Centre at the Château de Meudon is now equipped with video-conferencing facilities. This makes it possible to organize ’hybrid’ workshops with some of the participants in the room and the others by videoconference. Events can also use the other bookable rooms of the Observatory.
